List of Penalties
Cards has a large, ever-expanding list of penalties. Unless stated otherwise, being penalized means drawing one additional card.
Speaking penalties
- Failure to say "Have a nice day" when playing any seven
- Failure to say "Crazy Eights" when playing an eight
- Failure to announce a suit when playing a Wild Card
- Failure to say "Thank you" when receiving a penalty
- Failure to say "I declare war" when declaring war
- Failure to say "Go fish" when you don't have the card another player asked for
- Failure to say "I jack it off" (or some variation thereof) when jacking off an effect
- Failure to say "It's a joke" when making something into a joke
- Failure to say "2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate?" when making a four-card run of those numbers
- Failure to announce the type of book or run being played when playing a book or run (ex. Book of 9's, Run of 5)
- Failure to shout "Get in the Game!!" when telling someone to get in the game
- Failure to shout "Bomb!" when playing a bomb
- Saying anything bad (or remotely negative) about Cards
- Talking to someone outside of the game, without inviting them to play
- Dealer's failure to say "Let it rip" before their first turn
- Mentioning Thick of it By KSI
- Mentioning any of XTRATUNA's music
- Mentioning "six seven"
- Making a funny joke
- Swearing (includes slurs, no matter the context)
- Knocking over the deck
- Bending the cards
- Looking at your hand before the game has started
- Getting caught doing slight of hand
- Holding your cards out of sight of other players (ex. under the playing table)
- Touching any cards during a point of order (except when penalizing another player)
- Attempting to use number cards during an Attack
- Attempting to use magic in War
- Being caught giving cards to another player
- Playing Math after the third Math
- The dealer unintentionally giving too many or too few cards before the game begins
- Bringing two Custom Cards from the same source
Misc. penalties
- Making a mess
- Delaying the game (defined per-instance by other players)
- Getting another player penalized for attempting to assist you (being a tattle-tale)
- Being annoying
- Not knowing the answer to a question you asked during Bomb
- Intentionally penalizing yourself for additional cards results in your turn being skipped
- The dealer intentionally giving too many or too few cards before the game begins results in their turn being skipped
